Whoa, before you do that, check the permissions on ALL of your temp directories... /tmp /var/tmp /usr/tmp ... especially if you've moved them, for example to put them under /usr with a symlink at some stage. I get bitten with this one on every installation. IIRC it's the permissions on /usr/tmp that go wrong.
