When I rebooted, the Adaptec' BIOS printed the following error message: 'Incorrect cable or improper termination... please rectify' (or something similar I don't remember exactly) Then, I unplugged the hd cooler and a small fan over the Matrox MGA-200 chi= p, which were both attached to the IBM disks' power cable. Now the system seem= s to be fully functional. I have ran dd on both disks for several minutes without problems. Though this test is not sufficient to claim that the problem is solved, I suspect so, because I think that the 'improper termination' error= was due to an electrical problem caused by a failing fan.
