It's possible for a disk to be unable to read a = sector, but rewriting the sector would either succeed and leave the sector fully = working again, or cause it to be remapped in which case the disk will subsequentl= y perform=20 perfectly well[*]. Beyond running the manufacturers diagnostics, as the OP has said he has = nothing particularly valuable on the drive, it might be worth running a f= ew passes of dban or similar on the disk --- this will overwrite every part of the platter = and should make it abundantly clear if there is a real and persistent problem= =2E If you can't afford to scrub the disk, then just keep it under observation: = if the problems recur within a few weeks then yes, definitely RMA that drive. Cheers, Matthew =20 [*] If the error messages have disappeared since, then this has probably already happened. --=20 Dr Matthew J Seaman MA, D.Phil. 7 Priory Courtyard Flat 3 PGP: http://www.infracaninophile.co.uk/pgpkey Ramsgate Kent, CT11 9PW --------------enig0CD431D471E3BABD3AA77B5D Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.13 (FreeBSD) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEAREIAAYFAksA94oACgkQ8Mjk52CukIxfRQCfUVugkTJK287Tis5db8LQTNmK TjsAoISOJITyTEvxYjNjsF6sbEbBF0nj =84at -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig0CD431D471E3BABD3AA77B5D--
