Cdrecord implements many features and contains many workarounds for bad firmware in various drives. You should expect more problems from using burncd than from using burncd. AFAIR, burncd is a program written by someone who did ask people from the freebsd mailing lists to use burncd while he at the same time did sell support for a atapicam based cdrecord solution.
