I have a 4.3-STABLE system that I have enabled ssh on. AFAIK, it is a plain vanilla ssh included with the base distribution. The only thing I remember doing to turn it on was add SSH_ENABLE= "YES" to the rc.conf file. Initially it worked fine and responded quickly, even more quickly than the telnetd daemon. Now all of a sudden, it seems to take about a minute after connecting with an ssh client (I'm using PuTTY on Win 2K). Then I can enter my user name but have to wait another minute for the password prompt. After entering the password and waiting yet another minute, then the session responds normally. I haven't changed or added anything recently and have no idea why things are running so slowly. I even tried a reboot but have the same problem. And I get the same response even when connecting by specifying an IP address and not a machine name. Any ideas or clues as to what might be going on or what to check would be greatly appreciated.
