Squid demands RAM. Performs great until the system starts swapping, then
you're dead. Even a lowly P100 can perform very well as a squid server
given enough RAM. The content filtering is likely to increase the CPU
requirement.
My experience with Squid 2.1 suggests that about 1MB of RAM per 35MB of
disk cache space should be allowed for. Given this, I would expect that
128MB of RAM would allow you to run a 4GB cache, allowing for kernel
memory use etc. and no swapping.
