Though I had also forgten what those where. ;-) to wit: Yes it does bring back the re0 interface, but the dc ports fail in exactly the same way as I described above. ie, about two of them work, sometimes only one. The patch seems to have fixed just the mac addresses and the link active sensing, and even though these work for all ports some (most?) ports still fail to get a dhcp lease. The bottom line is I can't use this as a workaround, sorry. At least it seems like you have a good understanding of the problem, too bad it's so hard to fix.
