Uhhhhh, never mind. In my gyrations to uninstall, then reinstall XFree86 4.0 this morning on my play machine, I must have accidentally turned off linux_enable="YES" in my rc.conf. Real Player installs and runs fine from the self extracting binary. Sorry to waste everyone's bandwidth! Doh!
