See rc(8). The rc.d man page is a bit out of date. The scripts will also be called with a "stop" argument at shutdown time. This can be used to shut the daemon down cleanly, or ignored. It should not issue an error message. On sufficiently old versions of FreeBSD, this doesn't happen. Of course, on sufficiently old versions, there's no rc.d. <mike -- Mike Meyer <mwm@mired.org> http://www.mired.org/home/mwm/ Independent WWW/Perforce/FreeBSD/Unix consultant, email for more information.
