Sorry, they were so pathological (of the "click any keyword in the
mail search box and watch it croak" variety) that I didn't think
any further elucidation was necessary. :-)

However, of course, now that I go to reproduce the problem things
work perfectly.  Bah!

I'll send you another email if I can reproduce the bloody thing. :)
