Depending on your shell you can create an alias for the ls command which includes the -a option every time. For sh you can edit $HOME/.profile to include a line as alias ls="ls -a" For csh you can edit $HOME/.cshrc to include a line as alias ls "ls -l" -- Martin P. Hansen
