I had this same problem, but with vi and the middle mouse key (and
sitting at the computer, no ssh required). It wasn't
fully deterministic, but it would freeze if I pasted ~30 or more lines.

It took awhile for someone to repeat it because they were not pasting
enough lines and the window size affected the bug as well. You can set up
a duplicate scenario with gvim and see that it does NOT have the same
problem. Even kedit works well.

I don't know the root cause of the problem, but I now avoid pasting into
vi.
