Good suggestion.
$ env
http_proxy=http://localhost:3128/
gopher_proxy=http://localhost:3128/
https_proxy=http://localhost:3128/

The lynx.cfg file is stock; the proxy settings are all commented out.

That works. Thanks.

I'd still like to know what is creating the proxy settings. There's 
nothing in the bash or lynx files.
