--Sig_/4Wj1mwatNZ96d671aKcsAN2 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable For setting the dafault hash used to hash /etc/master.passwd, it has been recommended changing md5 for something more secure in the sense of being more expensive to crack. The handbook describes the procedure used in http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/crypt.html. Allegedly, hashes which were hashed with one of the sha-functions begin with the character $6$. Afer having changed my /etc/login.conf accordingly and having reset the passwords, the given there is not md5 anymore (I have tried with md5), but does not begin with the character $6$, but, as md5, with $1$, which is supposed to be md5-hashed. I fear I am a bit dense here, what am I getting wrong? Thanks and cheers, --=20 Christopher=20 TZ: GMT + 2h --Sig_/4Wj1mwatNZ96d671aKcsAN2 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=signature.asc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (FreeBSD) iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJP5caLAAoJEJTIKW/o3iwU8hMQAIt2Zzlxd0cA1luc3pRZdZvW ZwoCon4cJqfVGziRhBk0rLj+HKgaZhlJdr5MY5qGURD6EQKUXPbTPOcp+Lgv9p8b 4RhDfBioHeWBN7B7uZ4P8bf5NBFNdw89dB0Jl9wGj744Qeq032y116xGZigF7l16 UoMRyhP4bf7ww74KzM8/NU3iSoNRqSwZaziWds1dQJx51fVYIx4PtVhy4+1NDU0u ULrNwxcVJ16BOfX4Mzj/I2G7bDZ9VOKY1RTlSkh/Txt72URsBWtog05rV7P7mYpP avW4azUtr4lKlKWAgYnSRNba5viUNejGH64WtX8U7w5Ud6ObqFUEImbvFxQOnJXf A7HQj3NtJofQvgflit3l3phx2CXeUszMuOMxBtmhrSx/9Fw0/8ibOMucDn5F3Cta 9BJ5wscH46AWWaYzqwZhQksmGBBr3nzmsAqXTKPSZtLcR9OHYyGFg2zemswLPb2E pIiU0yJxD8cr1zsjWLPo6k6HV6+fNtq9QcVpC7xaaDhai97o2R2rMTLVEfxmKHm2 wcFSlKpQs9axDa7rBOt6ji0NbyOYgXn1wS0K9P+1Kiv45hy33v5KC0QsJmYrFN2H t1zT1LjTEYlmhEal2OEqqQNBkMkQzthA8ygbN0agMqv9HP+oVHSUQ2JQHRPx7Ibd yKFTj0be/buMVKw4PYPv =Zg0I -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Sig_/4Wj1mwatNZ96d671aKcsAN2--
