Hi again,

Just wanted to double check with you = all to make=20 sure there was nothing else to try.

PROBLEM:  Brand NEW Western = Digital 40 GB Hard=20 Drive in a Pentium 133 with an ASUS TXP4 motherboard with the newest = BIOS picks=20 up my 40 GB drive in the BIOS as a 33 GB or something close.  When = I boot=20 off the FreeBSD 4.6 CD and want to start doing fdisk to partition the = drive, it=20 thinks it's a 2 GB drive.

I've tried creating a 10 GB DOS = partition, didn't=20 work.  I tried calling Western Digital for any "tricks", they had = no idea..=20 They said it was a FreeBSD thing and sounds like it's treating it as a = FAT16=20 file system, but he didn't know if FreeBSD calls it FAT16 and FAT32, = etc...=20

The drive is set to AUTO and LBA in the = BIOS, but=20 I've also tried manually entering the numbers.  I've also tried to = play=20 with the geometries in the fdisk section and then it changed to a 33 GB = drive or=20 whatever, but when you go to make partitions and what not, they don't = create --=20 so that didn't work.

I think I've tried other things, but = I'm drawing a=20 blank!  Oh yeah, one more thing.  I hooked this drive up = to a=20 Celeron 1 GHz system I had laying around and everything went perfectly, = as it=20 should.  I paritioned off the drive, I installed FreeBSD with the = drive as=20 a 38 GB or whatever and THEN I tried putting the drive back into the = P133...=20 FreeBSD began to boot and then stopped when it came time to mount the = hard=20 drives and came to a prompt that looked like this:

mountroot>

So, if any of you have ANY ideas what I = can try=20 next... Please let me know... Otherwise I'll be looking to buy a CHEAP = newer=20 "barebone" system that won't have a problem seeing this as a 40 GB=20 drive.
