Hear, hear. I started with awk and sed. Wonderful stuff for short many-a-day
programs. Awk is really more than that if you want it to. A real must for
sysadmin. I lack shell programming - I'm constantly reminded of it. I really
should know it by now.

I'd rather use Python instead of Perl.
