I have found the same problem whilst using KDE tools. I'll try what happens after having updated the Ghostscript engine, this one is at least 1 1/2 years old. I have had no time to check the same with GNUstep tools, because of compilation errors outside the ports. I didn't know what 'print to file' means. I was thinking it was simply an option to send the printer a print-job already coded, without starting the program [OO], which generated the job itself.
