Sorry if this is a teach-your-granny-to-suck-eggs question, but how are
you starting tomcat?

I've got it working quite happily with the native jdk14. I tend to call
the tomcat startup script from a small wrapper that sets CATALINA_BASE
and JAVA_HOME correctly.
