I can now boot sucessfully. Thanks! That must somehow be connected to the comment that the geom isn't sane, using more sane numbers at install time. :) Do you know anyting about X? When I try to configure it, the screen goes white (slowly), and the machine locks up. /sigh. I have never seen X do this before. Thanks for your help. Mike
