Jim, I have been using vlc (www.videolan.org) from the ports collection for a few weeks now. It is working well for me. My video card is a Matrox G400 based card (Marvel) and I have used the ports upgrade to Xfree86 4. Success is dependent on video card architecture and driver support. I believe that some ATI models work well, and some are having problems with some Nvidia based cards. The only DVD that has choked so far for me is a Disney title "Fantasia". Thanks to Brian Somers for the port and updates.
