Dont forget.. identd **can** be run standalone from a command prompt..  
It has three modes of operation, one for running under inetd in nowait 
mode, one for running under inetd in wait mode (great!:-) and one for 
running as it's own server where it binds to the port itself and runs.  

That's why it's not clear-cut that it is a libexec thing...
