I have a successful installation of FreeBSD4.6-STABLE. Things are working relatively well. However, I notice and am concerned about some funny messages that display during the system boot. I'm concerned that my hard disk drive is not performing at what it should. I've got a dual-boot situation. The primary EIDE master disk drive (40GB) has the dual-boot MDR and Windows2000pro. The secondary EIDE master disk drive (20GB) is dedicated to FreeBSD. Both are WesternCaviar 7200rpm ATA100 disk drives. I also have a Pioneer 24X CD-ROM on the secondary EIDE controller as the slave. Following is the output of the boot (captured from dmesg.boot). If you'll notice, I'm getting "UDMA ICRC error" messages logged when the slices are read up by theboot processor. What are these? Sometimes, when I boot, the WD200BB disk drive shows up as UDMA33 instead of UDMA100. Is this because my CD-ROM is on the same controller? Should I move it. Is there something poissibly wrong? I'm also worried about hte 8 messages similar to: "unknown: <PNP0401> can't assign resources" ...what are these about ...what do they mean ...do I care? Thanx for any help you might give, and sorry for the long email. Copyright (c) 1992-2002 The FreeBSD Project.
