I've got a Sony VAIO PCG-F160 that works fine with Linux and FreeBSD.
One warning about Sony is that their warranty is 30 days on the battery
and 90 days on the laptop unless you register online. They'll extend
the laptop warranty to 1 year after registration, but the battery is
listed as a consumable and keeps is measily 30 day limit. I'm a year
and a half along this PC's lifecycle and the battery is just now losing
runtime, but I'm reluctant to buy a replacement knowing that Sony will
only guarantee the next battery for another 30 days.
