While this is indeed a bug, and I have tried this same patch in
the first place, by "diff -w" comparing the i386 and alpha
versions and noticing the difference, but this doesn't fix the
"gdbserver" issue.  Your change exposed a bug in "gdbserver",
see my posting to the "alpha tinderbox failure" thread which
includes the steps to recreate the problem for i386 (without
modifying sys/i386/include/endian.h) and a patch for
"gdbserver".
