All I know about is to simply recompile and force the install (you will get a prompt to set an environment variable to force the install). I never use the binaries, as they don't usually include the US sercurity extensions. I compile from source. I am not aware of anyplace you can download the libraries from. On my PII-333, the XFree86 compile only take an hour, actually less. The only problems with compiling from source is the TCL thing required for the setup stuff. If you are worried about it, compile TCL and TK first. You won't have a problem because you already have X installed. Then recompile the source and everything will be good.
