Actually, most cable providers allow for this when their clients are
assigned more then one ip address, the idea being that if the cablemodem
is plugged into the hub, along with any other boxes, those boxes can gain
a real ip over RFC1918 addresses.

Personally, I disagree with this policy vehemently [did I spell that
right? Time to install ispell I guess] and prefer a simpler setup, while
it doesn't allow for ISP based ip assignment, it's much more secure.

(uhh... saturday mornings, forgive me if I seem in error and excuse my
lame ascii art.)

* Ofcourse, this requires a different layout and only included to show
possibilities. Using a perimeter network can be beneficial, but also adds
to setup time if doing for the first time.

Anyways, if this is just a rambling on and on, I apologize my intent was
to illustrate possible solutions.
