Sorry, after extensive searching I've solved my own question. I have added the following to the port Makefile: ONFIGURE_ENV=3D LDFLAGS=3D"-L${LOCALBASE}/lib" This does what I required. I'm just gonna try and track down the other issue now, but I hope I am slowly getting the hang of this...
