During the installation process, you check a number of boxes=20 ("distributions"); also, in one of the installation menus=20 (Configuration), you can select a number of packages, as well as=20 configuring a desktop (Configuring XFree86 Desktop). Even if you decide to install no packages, you can easily do that=20 later, via pkg_add(1) and the ports(7) system.
