The book doesn't cover kde (and probably won't in the next edition
either).  But starting up should be the same as starting X.  That's
covered in the book.

I wonder whether you have read it.  This time it's 4 chapters and 66
pages worth.  I'm not going to tell you where, because it sounds like
you're missing a lot of background, and you need this background in
able to understand what you're doing.

Try "The Complete FreeBSD".
