I have a customer who wishes to retrieve his E-mail via ETRN. I know this is supposed to be simple but this has been a real pain to get it to work, I've spent a couple of very frustrated weeks on this. My customer has a domain: oregansinc.com. I have assigned it a static IP from our class C. The web server for this domain resides on a Win NT box on our lan. MX records for this domain point to jellico.net (my FreeBSD box). E-mail intended for oregansinc.com was bouncing immediately, with one of two error messages: User unknown, and relaying denied (in spite of the fact that the domain is listed in /etc/mail/relay-domains). I have fixed this problem, Sendmail is now queueing mail intended for oregansinc.com in the mail queue (I see it when I issue the mailq command). Unfortunately, people sending mail to this domain are now getting a return E-mail that states: -----Original Message----- From: Mail Delivery Subsystem [mailto:MAILER-DAEMON@i2000.jellico.net] Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2000 6:05 PM To: reganm@forscom.army.mil Subject: Warning: could not send message for past 4 hours ********************************************** ** THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY ** ** YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE ** ********************************************** The original message was received at Wed, 20 Dec 2000 13:56:49 -0500 (EST) from fcsmthhqlb4.forscom.army.mil [160.136.40.5] ----- The following addresses had transient non-fatal errors ----- ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... Deferred: Connection refused by oregansinc.com. Warning: message still undelivered after 4 hours Will keep trying until message is 5 days old This is NOT what I want to happen. I want the mail to be queued until my customer chooses to retrieve it via ETRN, which may be more than 5 days. Also I don't want everyone who sends E-mail to this domain to recieve this message. How can I prevent this from happening with E-mail intended for this domain but still have other messages in my mail queue handled normally (i.e. bounced after 5 days if they remain undeliverable)??
