USR makes V90 PCI MODEMS. You can save $50 buying a WinModem if and
only if, Winblows is the ONLY platform you expect it to work with
(don't be a foole).  But an extra $50 will get you a V90 PCI MODEM that
is a *real* modem.  Internal or external (slightly higher cost due to
case+power supply).

My USR 56K PCI is in my OS/2/WinNT box, because my Internet gateway is
VL-bus 486/66 (and runs like a dream). This gateway uses a slightly
older USR DSVD 33K ISA based modem.
Unix systems measure "uptime" in years, Winblows measures it in minutes.
