The man page has information, then, on how to change the prompt. I like % too, because $ reminds me of the VAX and > reminds me of dos. But I want the prompt to switch to # when I become root. So in .tcshrc, which runs when the shell starts, I have if ($?prompt) then set prompt = "%m %h %t %~ %# " set promptchars = "%#" which does what I want as well as as few other things. Annelise
