I suggest you use the pcm0 driver, not snd0 however; an alternative sound driver is OSS, from www.opensound.com .. OSS is extremely easy to configure, especially for Plug and Play sound cards, and does not require kernel compilation. Unfortunately, it is commercial and expires after a period of time ( I forget exactly how long ). If it is an IDE cdrom you are referring to, the only cd player I got to work on 2.2.6 and my generic 24x cdrom was "xcdplayer", and even then I must program the tracks in order for them to play. IDE ATAPI CD-ROM drives are supported by the GENERIC kernel ( the one FreeBSD comes with ), as long as you have it IDE support enabled. If you have a SCSI cdrom, you have a much wider variety of CD players to choose from :) But cdrom support isn't the "big deal", sound support is. I suggest compiling your kernel with the pcm0 driver. > > second: > I want be able connect to the internet using my modem but i could not > do it I can not make FreeBSD talk to the modem or maybe I could not > configure them I am so upsad If it's a "Windows Modem", it's not going to work ( unfortunately :( ) If it's any consolation, those modems suck :) Be aware that in FreeBSD /dev/cuaa0 is "COM1", and /dev/cuaa1 is "COM2". > > please can you help me with step by step configuration that i should > take, Need a little more info on what you can't get working about PPP. > > My computer > Toshiba Infinia 7160 > Pentium 160 > Sound Blaster Pro 3.1 detected > Yamaha OPL-3 FM detected > MPU-401 MIDI Interface 0.0 detected > 1.6 GB 32 MB Looks fine, but you don't mention whether you have a SCSI or IDE HDD/CD-ROM. ( eww, sbpro? Do you have one of those Yamaha sound cards ? ) :) > > peace > > thank you, > Franky -rob ( www.namodn.com ) ( robert@namodn.com ) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
