This was a while into things.

I'm a bit confused- the pmap corruption must be corrupting random kernel
mapped items. I read this situation as having taken something allocated very
early (callout wheel table) and taking some of it away.

> Can somebody re-review my pmap_emulate_reference() hacks?

I missed those, but it's not my area of strengths either.
