Provide the "link1"-flag with ifconfig When your device is not "up", you won't be able to ping any machine via that device. Assuming you made the correct "ifconfig" for your device, just "ifconfig isppp0 up" to get it up and when disconnected, make "ifconfig isppp0 down" to get it down so no dial will be made. Malte.
