The rules are simple:

- You are allowed to manually edit `/etc/rc.conf'
- You are *NOT* allowed to manually edit `/etc/defaults/rc.conf'

The rc.conf(5) manpage is a nice introduction about these two
files and it also contains a useful list of options you can set
in `/etc/rc.conf'.
