Like everyone else on the planet, I'm trying to install FreeBSD. :) My system boots fine from either the boot floppy (2.88M) or the install CDs. After giving the computer about twenty minutes to grind through the minimal installation, it finishes properly and resets the computer. The computer loads the kernel from the hard drive, displaying "/kernel text=0x1b548e data=0x1cdc0+0x20108 syms=[0x4+0x25750+0x4+0x25b6b]". Unfortunately, this is where it turns bad. The next lines displayed are: int=130001d5 err=c7000000 efl=04428b00 eip=01d57805 eax=01d56005 ebx=f689c3c9 ecx=c7085d8b edx=53e58955 esi=ffffcdd8 edi=e8e475ff ebp=658dc031 esp=5d01e845 cs=0000 ds=8f0f es=7d83 fs=ffff gs=00e4 ss=290c cs:eip = ff ff ff ff . . . (all ff's) ss:esp = ff ff ff ff . . . (all ff's) System Halted I've noticed that the values listed while the boot floppy kernel loads are different than those after the kernel on the hard drive. How can I transfer the kernel from the boot floppy to the hard drive? I've tried to use the fixit shell from CD #2 to do so, but have had no success. Alternatively, what can I do to make the hard drive boot? Booting from a floppy and transferring control to the HD would be acceptable. Thanks for any help, and feel free to e-mail if I can clarify any points. Michael __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
