looks like the book that you're reading assumes you have more than
one os installed (and choose which one to boot with booteasy).
if you only have freebsd installed, chances are you have just the
"standard MBR"; you don't have the F1..n prompt then.
to get to the boot prompt that will allow you to specify various
options including which device to boot from just follow the
instructions that appear on the screen as the machine boots. iow,
press any key *but enter* during the (by default) 10 sec delay, and
follow the instructions from the other followup you got.
but this is iirc well described in the handbook.
