If the latter, it's almost certainly that your window manager or other process is trying to bring up a screen saver and that's killing things. But we'll need a lot more data to be able to help: - FreeBSD version? - X version? - Window manager? - xlock set up? - When it crashes, what exactly happens? - How do you know the kernel is crashing? What messages appear on your screen (kernel "panic" message?
