in some ways, im glad to learn that im not the only one thinking that
gnome-terminal uses up alot of resources on the system... too bad, i think
it's a really good terminal, but i have to use another terminal in order to
make my system run nicely.

I don't have the problem with gnome-terminal that much, but it just sometime

will use a lot of CPU and slow. I don't have to hit ^C or kill it, since 
Gnome 2.1.x. Until, mplayer-skins updated today and now is giving me the 
problem by freeze up, so I had to kill it. mplayer-skins have the 'dos gui' 
to select the options what you want to install. gnome-terminal/vte just 
finally happened to hate it.

Can you try to go there and do the 'make' to see if it will kill your 
gnome-terminal?
