Folks,

Since it is one of those decisions that affects many things at once, I
would like to discuss how we are going to separate GNOME1 bits and
pieces from GNOME2 ones. As far as I can tell, there is very little
file sharing between GNOME1 and GNOME2, as each GNOME1 components has
at least one corresponding GNOME2 component. Therefore, I would like
to have separate hierarchies for GNOME2 files, something like the
following:

${X11BASE}/
	   etc/gnome2/ <- configuration files
		      gconf/
		      gnome-vfs-2.0/
		      ...
share/gnome2/	<- data files installed by GNOME2 components

This would prevent any clashes between GNOME1 and GNOME2 components
(for example with the current setup I see that GNOME1 ports use gconf
daemon from the gconf2 package if it's installed instead of the daemon
from the gconf1 package.

Any comments are appreciated.

-Maxim
