I'd imagine something like www.freebsd.org/cvs-transition.html And on the short and sweet page (don't overload people): == Say that cvs was transitioned in 2008 for src, 2011 for doc, 2012 for ports. If they were using cvsup for src, they should use the subversion port/package and check out from a mirror (and a link to the svn mirror list: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/mirrors-svn.html) If they were using cvsup to check out ports (in checkout mode), they should consider portsnap (link to a portsnap primer). If they were using cvsup for ports cvs, they should use svn on a mirror. (and the mirror link again) Point out that if they're not a ports developer they should consider portsnap. Re-mention freebsd-update and a pointer to info about it. == The reason why I'm looking for a fixed page is so we can reference it in the cvs exporter. And eventually, when svn2cvs is turned off we'll need to make a final "lights out" commit to the dead cvs tree that puts a printf in kernel dmesg, and/or login messages with a need-to-know link for folks who haven't been paying attention. Or possibly even #error "This source tree is deprecated; see http://www.freebsd.org/cvs-transition.html". Either way, we need a permalink that we can add to / polish / refine as needed. It doesn't need to be a work of art, just somewhere to land. -- Peter Wemm - peter@wemm.org; peter@FreeBSD.org; peter@yahoo-inc.com; KI6FJV "All of this is for nothing if we don't go to the stars" - JMS/B5 "If Java had true garbage collection, most programs would delete themselves upon execution." -- Robert Sewell
