Okay. I'll admit it. It was me. I did something stupid, and my /usr/src/sys directory was gone, accompanied by the sound of my system laughing at me... or was that the SCSI disk churning? Anyway, since I'd wanted to get to building a custom kernel this coming week, I thought I'd better replace it. I went to the handbook, to <http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/handbook39.html#41>, and got the helpful advice: >Note: If there is not a /usr/src/sys directory on your system, then the kernel source > has not been been installed. Follow the instructions for installing packages to add this > package to your system. Okie. So... it's a package? Cool. I c'n do that. I went to <ftp://ftp2.freebsd.org>, looked in /pub/FreeBSD/packages/All, and... hmm. Nothing helpfully labeled as 'kernel sources' or 'system sources', or, really, any sources at all. Up a level. No division for 'system' or 'kernel'. Okie... let's try /pub/FreeBSD/2.2.7-RELEASE. No dice. To make a long story short, it would have been /really/ helpful for the handbook to tell you /what/ package needed to be added, but failing that, could some kind soul please take pity on poor newbie me, and point me to the right package? Please?
