I went ahead and enabled the onboard sound chip (6 channel 5.1 Surround capable) and the IR port. Both are detected and appear to function fine with 5.2-RELEASE. I don't use ECC RAM in this machine, but for those of you looking for a decent Intel chipset motherboard that does, this one can. Relevant bits of dmesg: FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE #7: Tue Jan 13 18:53:17 EST 2004 ... pcm0: port 0xdc00-0xdc3f,0xd800-0xd8ff mem 0xec103000-0xec1030ff,0xec102000-0xec1021ff irq 17 at device 31.5 on pci0 pcm0: ... sio1 port 0x2f8-0x2ff irq 3 on acpi0 sio1: type 16550A ... My case doesn't have IR port hardware on it to plug into the socket on the motherboard, but since sio1 attaches okay with it enabled, the assumption is that birda would work fine with it. It looks like at least Abit's base IC7 i875p chipset motherboard works 100% from a detection and driver standpoint. There are a couple of variants on this motherboard, the most likely would be the IC7-G, which is identical to what I have but adds an onboard Intel GBit NIC (and there are two or three different potential chips, depending on exactly which model of mobo you choose. I don't know the state of the Intel GBIC driver, so I can't comment on support for those.) I don't have multiple SATA drives to check how well the built SATA RAID (0 only) function works unfortunately, so I can't comment on that either. Running from a single SATA/150 drive is nice and speedy. Another variant (IC7-G for sure, and potentially others) also adds an onboard Silicon Image Dual Channel SATA RAID capable (0/1/0+1 only) controller (for a total of 4 SATA channels instead of two). If you care about a full dmesg, you can hunt down my previous post about 5.2-RC which shows everything else. The only difference will be the reported kernel version, the addition of pcm0, and sio1 is now attached instead of being reported as missing from bitmap of probed IRQs.
