Okay, I tried running Mozilla-dev on -stable last night. I have TrueType, mozilla-fonts, urw-fonts, freefonts, webfonts and sharefonts all installed also. Fonts look GREAT in the main browser window window, however I do get the bizarre characters in the Sidebar navigation window only. I had substituted either a Microsoft or mozilla-font for most entries in the Preferences font applet. Worse was that I disabled the Sidebar, since I can't stand it, and EVERYTIME I hit the BACK button it would reappear. Nothing I could do would keep it disabled. Extremely irritating.
I'm already back on moz 1.1.
