With the OSS/FreeBSD 3.9.2f (latest) driver installed on a 3.1-stable machine, the .wav player included in the oss package works normally. If I try to play an mp3 file with x11amp, the x11amp graphic appears as if its playing the file but there is no audio output. The docs with oss indicate: OSS/FreeBSD is upward compatible with the older VoxWare sound driver which has been used in FreeBSD and Linux for years. For this reason all sound applications available for FreeBSD will work with OSS. /dev/sndstat looks like this: OSS/FreeBSD 3.9.2f (C) 4Front Technologies 1996-1999 License serial number: E00000008 Open Sound System is licensed for evaluation purposes only. License will expire after: 05/1999 Options: ALL *** Activity time of this evaluation version is limited *** Kernel: FreeBSD 3.1-STABLE #5: Sat Apr 10 17:18:52 EDT 1999 kimc@hyster.w8hd.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/hyster Card config: Ensoniq AudioPCI 97 at 0xef00 irq 11 Audio devices: 0: Ensoniq AudioPCI97 (DUPLEX) 1: Ensoniq AudioPCI97 (playback only) Synth devices: Midi devices: 0: AudioPCI97 Timers: 0: System clock Mixers: 0: AudioPCI 97 (TR28023) Any help here is muchly appreciated. -kim -- kimc@netcom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message
