I have a similar problem on a 6500 with 4 Xeons.  Everything runs fine
with a single processor kernel, but mounting / hangs with SMP enabled.
It's also running the ida raid driver.  I will give more details on monday
if anyone is intrested, not anywhere near the computer right now.
