Setting it up as an email answering machine should be easy. You can simply have a daemon running, or you can modify your mail notification, to send back a message. Same for a FAX machine (if you don't care too much about the cost). The only problem now is how to get your BSD box know that there's a phone call -- No clue about this.. Sorry!
