I don't know what kind of compilation copyright that WC uses though. There are parts of FreeBSD (e.g. the kernel) that is relatively more free than GPL, and affords for easier (less encumbered) embedding in product. If anything, we tend to avoid using GPLed code for critical parts of the system, to avoid the associated entanglements.
