I had the same problem yesterday.
Nvidia-driver port uses /usr/share/mk/bsd.kmod.mk, which needs the kernel 
source tree.
I think you maked nvidia-driver while your source tree was the CURRENT 
one.
Update to tag=RELENG_5_2, make nvidia-driver, and it should load well.
